Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College (BCBC) continues its 2013-2014 season with its annual holiday performance of Dance Theatre in Westchester's The Colonial Nutcracker on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 2pm. Created especially for families with children ages four to ten, The Colonial Nutcrackersets Tchaikovsky's classic ballet in wintry colonial Yorktown during the Revolutionary War. The production features classics such as "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" and "Waltz of the Snowflakes," a red-coated mouse army, an enchanted nutcracker prince, and compelling narration that will enhance young viewers' understanding and enjoyment of this timeless story. Rose Menes' delightful staging and choreography, coupled with colorful costumes and Tchaikovsky's enduring score, will captivate audiences of all ages.
In addition to The Colonial Nutcracker, Brooklyn Center's 2013-2014 family performances include the Russian-language Christmas musical The Snow Maiden(Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 4pm), Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 2pm), Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company's Lunar New Year Celebration (Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 3pm), Cirque Ziva (Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 3pm), Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia's A Brown Bear, a Moon, and a Caterpillar: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle (Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2pm), Sid the Science Kid - Live! (Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 2pm) and American Family Theater's The Wizard of Oz (Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 2pm). Brooklyn Center will also present two free family events, once again partnering with The School of American Ballet to present The Beauty of Ballet (Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 2pm) and hosting the Seventh Annual National Grid Earth Day Celebration (Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 3pm). Family programming ticket prices range from free to $35, with a 50% discount available to children 12 and under for select performances.
