The tango is presented in 8cho by Argentina's Brenda Angiel Aerial Dance Company, a piece named after the popular tango step. Performing at The New Victory Theater from tonight, May 4th through May 20th, the company has a whole new take on tradition.

Set in a night-spot, dancers perform alone, in pairs and as an ensemble, experimenting with both speed and space. Suspended in midair, they leap, lunge, swirl and swivel, on the walls – even upside down – infusing the familiar aspects of the tango, milonga and waltz with feats of aerial skill. The work also features a live band of six instrumentalists (bandoneon, piano, guitar, violin, vibraphone/percussion, contrabass) and a vocalist.

8cho is directed and choreographed by Brenda Angiel. The orchestra direction, original score and arrangements are by Juan Pablo Arcangeli and Martín Ghersa.

Dancers in 8cho include: Lucas Coria; Mauro Dann; Viviana Finkelstein; Juan Iglesias; María Luján Minguez and Cristina Tziouras. Musicians include: Joaquín Apesteguía (guitar), Juan Pablo Arcangeli (bass), Pablo Borghi (violin), Martín Ghersa (vibraphone and percussion), Alejandro Guyot (voice), Ulises Avedaño Montes (piano) and Adolfo Maria Trepiana (who replaces Pedro Kiszkurno) on the bandoneon.

Performance Schedule
Friday, May 4 at 7pm
Saturday, May 5 at 2pm, 7pm
Sunday, May 6 at 12pm
