Troy Schumacher, Director of BalletCollective (formerly Satellite Ballet) today announced that the company will make its Joyce Theater debut on August 14 and 15 with a program that will include a world premiere collaboration between Schumacher, composer Ellis Ludwig-Leone, poet Cynthia Zarin and new music ensemble ACME, as well as a revised version of the company's Epistasis (2012). In other news, seven company dancers will be featured in the spring issue of Carine Roitfeld's new high gloss magazine, CR Fashion Book. An online film featuring dancers Ashley Laracey, Lauren King, David Applebaum and Taylor Stanley will be released in conjunction with the magazine release.
BalletCollective, based in New York City was founded in 2010 as Satellite Ballet by choreographer Troy Schumacher of the New York City Ballet and architect Kevin Draper. BalletCollective has created three ballets and two song cycles in 2011 and 2012, as well as a Fridays at Noon lecture at the 92nd St Y. Each work reflects the company's commitment to collaboration with a diversified group of artists.
BalletCollective is committed to working with top tier performers, using both established and up-and-coming dancers from the New York City Ballet and respected classical ensembles for its workshops and performances. Dancers who have performed with BalletCollective include Marika Anderson, Daniel Applebaum, Emilie Gerrity, Samuel Greenberg, Lauren King, Ashley Laracey, Justin Peck, Teresa Reichlen, Taylor Stanley and Lydia Wellington.
Troy Schumacher, director and choreographer, trained at both the School of American Ballet and Atlanta Ballet, and has danced with the New York City Ballet since 2004. In addition to his works for BalletCollective, Schumacher has had works commissioned by the 92nd St Y, the New York Choreographic Institute, the Atlanta Ballet's trainee program and Salon/Sanctuary Concerts.
