Scarsdale Ballet Studio, recognized regionally for providing students with a quality ballet curriculum, will present a brand-new production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, choreographed by New York City Ballet's Diana White, Broadway's Marcus Galante, and contributions of the faculty, for two shows only on December 18 at the Purchase Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. In keeping true to the timeless tale of The Nutcracker, audiences will enjoy the rich legacy of a classical work that is a postcard to the holiday season, celebrating with magic, whirling snowflakes and dancing treats from the Sugar Plum Fairy's Land of the Sweets.
With a legacy of nearly 25 years, Scarsdale Ballet Studio has re-staged and re-imagined works from Balanchine, Petipa, Saint-Léon and others, presenting their students with the rich and meaningful opportunity to learn classical works from the ballet repertoire. White, a former soloist of New York City Ballet has invited students of all ages and levels to participate in this production, casting dancers from the youngest mouse to the pre-professional roles of the Act II divertissements. "The Nutcracker is the only classical ballet I can think of where children are truly the stars of the show," explains White, Artistic Director of the school. "After performing over at least 7 different roles in over 500 performances of Nutcracker with New York City Ballet and as a guest artist, I thought I was through with The Nutcracker! But after more than 20 years of directing the Scarsdale Ballet Studio, I realized how much I missed it and how much I wanted to share this magical ballet with my students, their families and the community."Videos
