Breakin' Convention, the critically acclaimed festival of hip hop dance theatre, pops and locks its way into the Lyceum Theatre from Friday 25 – Saturday 26 May, with more jaw-dropping performances from local and International Artists.
Hosted and curated by eminent UK hip hop star Jonzi D, the two day festival showcases stunning dance routines from international hit dance duo Clash 66 (France & Korea) and current double b-boy world champions, Vagabond Crew (France).
Six local dance crews will open the shows, performing their own explosive forms of hip hop dance, including locking, b-boying and house. On Friday, Dinnington-based Breakin' Convention regulars So Damn Kreative perform alongside Huddersfield break-dancer, Stoxie and Sheffield's hip-hop dance crew, Rationale, return to Sheffield Theatres after their successful performance of In My Shoes, part of the Crucible 40th birthday celebrations last November. On Saturday, Barnsley's one and only youth break dancing crew, Street Kingz from Kingstone School, take to the stage. They are joined by free styling duo and Sky 1's Got To Dance Semi Finalists, Urban Jokers, and Anthony Bayou with Discreet Dance.
As part of the festival audiences can also experience additional events such as graffiti with My Life Project, breaking workshops with Vagabond Crew, live music and open dance circles.
Breakin' Convention is on at the Lyceum Theatre from Friday 25 – Saturday 26 May. Tickets can be purchased from Sheffield Theatres' Box Office in-person, by phone on 0114 249 6000 or online at sheffieldtheatres.co.uk and are priced £14.50 - £19.50, with discounts available.
