The nationally acclaimed CSUF dance program features its annual Spring Dance Theatre, coordinated by Gladys Kares, on May 4 through May 14, 2017 in the Little Theatre on Cal State Fullerton's campus. Spring Dance Theatre includes original choreography by students, faculty and guest artists. CSUF dancers were recently featured at Washington DC's Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
"Leaving Dysphoria" is a look into the emotions and actions of leaving a relationship, choreographed by dance student Dylan Ochoa to the music of David Darling, Ketil Bjornstad, Terje Rypdal and Jon Christensen. In guest artist Leslie Scott's piece, "Windows and Doors," the dancers shape and reshape the space around them, turning space into a fifth dancer. "Now" is choreographed by international dancer and choreographer Alvin Rangel to the music of Mozart. Abigail DiGarza and Victor Sanchez co-choreograph "General Admission" to the music of Alva Noto and Raime. "Severed Ground" is set to the music of Colin Stetson and choreographed by CSUF's award-winning dance student Jessica Vela. Professional dancer/choreographer Lisa D. Long choreographs her modern dance piece "Liminal Breath" to the music of the Gotan Project. Alexander Caballero choreographs his piece, "In Pursuit of Self," to the music of Woodkid with a poem by Angel Durán and spoken word by Edward Salas. CSUF College of the Arts Dean Dale Merrill uses the music of Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis and Zoot Sims to choreograph his classic American jazz piece, "Roof Top."
Scenic Coordination is by Mauri Anne Smith, Lighting Coordination is by Debra Garcia Lockwood, Costume and Hair/Makeup Coordination is by Abel Zeballos, Projections Design is by Dave Mickey and Conner Purzycki and Sound Design is by Lauren Zuiderveld.
Spring Dance Theatre plays at 8pm on May 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 and at 2pm on May 7, 14. General admission tickets are $14 ($12 with advance Titan Discount purchase for students, seniors or with a CSUF ID). All tickets are $14 at the door.
