The AG!D Intensive Professional Project -- YOU & GONE! -- offers emerging and professional dancers and dance instructors an opportunity to investigate and experience the creative process and choreography of renowned choreographer Karole Armitage. The creative approach delves into composition techniques that include exploring science, cubism in motion, action/reaction, tracing, and the use of Japanese calligraphy to generate movement vocabulary.

The audition for emerging and professional dancers is scheduled for October 4, 2014 at Mana Contemporary. Several dancers in YOU & GONE! will be selected to perform in an AG!D world premiere at the American Museum of Natural History in spring 2015. The IPP registration fee is $1,500. Scholarships and early registration discounts are available.

It's YOU & GONE! in the studio. The AG!D Intensive Professional Project features Karole Armitage and Charles Askegard.

KAROLE ARMITAGE (Dancer, Choreographer) Contemporary dance gives expression to the obvious and the hidden. Dancer, choreographer and Artistic Director of Armitage Gone! Dance, Karole Armitage is known for her fierce exchange with convention and provoking the senses to respond. Over the past 35 years, she carved her own niche in dance by establishing movement language that sets her apart. Her interests reach the popular and marginal as well as the technique and traditions of ballet and modern dance. Her best work is notably rich in non-thematic complexity and lyrical intensity. Armitage began her professional career in 1973 as a member of the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, a company devoted to the repertory of George Balanchine. Subsequently, she performed lead roles in the Merce Cuningham company resulting in her unique and acute knowledge of the aesthetic values of the Balanchine and Cunningham. She moves in the dichotomy of classical and modern dance and is seen by some critics as the true heir to the two masters of American dance. Armitage created her company Armitage Gone! Dance in 1985. Dance and opera companies throughout the world sought her out to direct and choreograph. In AG!D's beginning, Armitage incubated relationships with renowned visual artists such as David Salle, Jeff Koons, and Christian Lacroix, and others who continue to collaborate with her today. Armitage is renowned for pushing boundaries to create contemporary works that blend dance, music and art to engage in philosophical questions about the search for meaning. Armitage is the recipient of numerous awards for her body of work including the prestigious French award Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the 2008-2009 nomination for the Antoinette Perry Award for Best Choreography for Hair.

CHARLES ASKEGARD (Dancer, Choreographer) Hired by Mikhail Baryshnikov to dance with the American Ballet Theatre in principal roles including Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, and La Bayadere, Askegard has also danced with choreographers Agnes de Mille, Twyla Tharp, Glen Tetley, Natalia Makarova, and Lar Lubovitch. He joined New York City Ballet where he performed as a Principal Dancer for fourteen years. He co-founded Ballet Next and went on to become the Associate Director at the Minnesota Dance Theatre. He is certified under the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum.

It's YOU & GONE! in the studio. The AG!D Intensive Professional Project Artistic Director, Karole Armitage and Managing Director Libby Croteau constructed the YOU & GONE! Intensive Professional Project to challenge the emerging and professional dancer's ongoing learning experience. Designed as a retreat to refresh, the teacher program of the IPP explores a wide range of movement as well as artistic, creative and intellectual concepts.
