Anne Plamondon returns to Danse Danse with the world premiere of MYOKINE, a unifying exploration of the body as a source of resilience, beauty and hope in the face of the urgent need for action that characterizes our times. Presented November 14-18 at the Place des Arts' Cinquième Salle.

A true ode to hope and to the body's vital strength, a refuge of infinite intelligence, MYOKINE seeks to shed light on the duality we may feel in wanting to live a fulfilled life in a world where, at times, everything seems to be falling apart.

Myokines are molecules secreted by the muscles when the body is in motion, often called "hope molecules" for the feeling of well-being and optimism they provide. Anne Plamondon seized upon the myokine formation process as she sought to understand how the body, faced with the proliferation of complex and troubling issues in our time, reacted to this often overwhelming reality. For her, it embodied dance's essential function of releasing tension, emotions and anxiety, and giving meaning to the imperfections that lend existence both strength and vulnerability.

Following her acclaimed solos and duets Les mêmes yeux que toi (2012), Mécaniques nocturnes (2017) and Seulement toi (2022), Anne Plamondon expands her dance outside of her own body to make way for an energetic septet of pan-Canadian performers. Using a multifaceted language developed over the course of the choreographer's eclectic career, the dancers progress with precision and virtuosity through a stripped-back scenography. Dancing to the hypnotic music of Ouri Riou and Olivier Fairfield, they demonstrate through the strength of their united bodies our ability to transcend, together, the anger provoked by adversity and injustices of our daily lives.
