32 College DanceSport Teams to Compete at Manhattan Amateur Classic

Dance Sport teams from 32 colleges in 17 states will be competing at the 26th Annual Manhattan Amateur Classic - the "MAC" - on January 15, 16 and 17 at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City, according to Daphna Locker, President of the Greater New York Chapter of USA Dance.

"DanceSport has been growing in popularity among college students for the past several years, and this year's turnout confirms that trend," said Locker. "I look forward to alumni and dance fans cheering on their favorite teams."

About Manhattan Amateur Classic:

The Manhattan Amateur Classic, the "MAC," is an annual three day competition held over the Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend. It features America's top amateur dancers and collegiate Dance Sport teams.

The 2016 MAC will also feature the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) Junior II Standard and Latin Open Competitions, which draw couples from around the world who have been recognized for their expertise and excellence in major international competitions.

The Manhattan Amateur Classic, MAC, is organized annually by the New York Chapter of USA Dance, a member chapter of USA Dance Inc. USADance is the National Governing Body for Dance Sport in the United States. For DanceSport, USA Dance Inc is the official member organization of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the U.S. member of the world governing organization, the WorldDance Sport Federation (WDSF), which is the official global member organization of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Along with the WDSF, USA Dance has the sustaining mission to gain national and global acceptance for Dance Sport as an official medal sport in the Olympic Games.

A significant portion of USA Dance's resources are devoted to promoting, organizing and supporting ballroom dancing programs for youth and collegiate dancers.
