John Ross Dance, winner of the 2014 New Adventures Choreographer Award, presents the world premieres of "Little Sheep" and "Eclipse", and the re-staging of "Wolf Pack" in a triple bill at the Hackney Empire on Wednesday 17 andThursday 18 September.

Little Sheep

Like a stone thrown across water, the effect of a single action can trigger a ripple effect of unexpected proportions. Reflecting on the London riots and a person's notion to follow the flock, individual stories from both sides are cleverly re-told and imagined.

Wolf Pack

Saturday night out with the lads....boys will be boys!

Eclipse

A solar eclipse according to Chinese myth was caused by a creature eating the sun. A new work created for the talented Shoreditch Youth Dance Company.

Artistic Director of New Adventures, Matthew Bourne, said of the winning choreographer: "John Ross is a choreographer with something to say....and he says it with devilish humour, style and emotional punch."

John Ross initially trained as an actor before training as a dancer at the Scottish School for Contemporary Dance and at The Place, graduating with 1st Class Honours in 2011. Since graduating John has created a number of short works including choreographing a musical, Epidemic for Old Vic New Voices. John will be offered 12 months of mentoring and support and develop new work to be presented by New Adventures, at his own showcase performance, at a prestigious London venue in the Autumn of 2014.

The New Adventures Chorographer Award (NACA) has established itself as one of the sector's most hotly sought after platforms for new choreographic talent. The award was originally established by colleagues and friends in celebration of Matthew Bourne's 50th birthday in 2010. Matthew Bourne said today "When these awards were created three years ago, I was adamant that we used the word 'choreographer', rather than "choreography" as it was the artists, rather than the work that I wanted to support." From almost 100 applications for the award, six were shortlisted and interviewed by Matthew Bourne and his team of distinguished judges - Scott Ambler, Etta Murfitt, Lez Brotherston, Nina Goldman, Christopher Hampson, Sharon Watson, Ed Watson and Emma Rice. Three awards were given: Producer Award to Sally Marie, a co-commissioning Award for Caroline Finn (with Phoenix Dance) and the Showcase Award for John Ross.
