Giordano Dance Chicago and Point Park University present Jazz Dance World Festival, featuring four electrifying evenings of dance today, August 1 through August 4 at the Byham Theatre in the Cultural District. A variety of companies and styles from around the world will grace the Byham stage, creating a completely unique program each night. Jazz Dance World Festival is sponsored by Dance Magazine, Dance Spirit and Dance Teacher, with additional support as an Event Partner from the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
Giordano Dance Chicago kicks-off its milestone 50th Anniversary as host of the Jazz Dance World Festival. The company will perform a variety of favorites from its popular repertoire including the award-winning “Pyroknesis” by Christopher Huggins, a thrilling ballroom piece entitled “Sabroso” by Del Dominguez and Laura Flores, “JOLT” by Autumn Eckman and Nan Giordano, plus more. Dance Magazine recently raved that GDC is “a burst of pure dance joy that left the audience breathless and ready for more.”

Tickets to Jazz Dance World Festival are $45 each and can be purchased by calling 412-456-6666 or online at http://www.trustarts.org. The Festival performance begins at 8 p.m. each evening. Patrons who purchase a ticket are also welcome to attend the pre-show International Choreography Competition, sponsored by Dance Studio Life, at 6:30 p.m. each evening at the Byham. The first place winner of this esteemed competition will receive $2,500 and the special opportunity to perform alongside the professional companies at the closing night of the Festival on Saturday, August 4. Jazz Dance World Festival is held in conjunction with Jazz Dance World Congress.
Jazz Dance World Congress 2012, presented by Giordano Dance Chicago and Point Park University, is an international consortium of dancers and teachers which furthers the legacy of jazz dance and education. This five day educational event unites teachers, dancers, and choreographers from all over the world and will take place on the campus of Point Park University from August 1-5, 2012, with additional classes and performances at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture and the Byham Theater.
