Guests will experience a performance that highlights iconic pieces from three of the Classical Era's most well-known composers, Beethoven, Mozart and Haydn.
"Our audience will enjoy an evening of powerful pieces composed by those who truly put classical music on the map," said Lawrence Golan, music director and conductor of the York Symphony Orchestra. "The evening will include Beethoven's iconic Symphony No. 5, which was composed during Beethoven's "Heroic" period and is a passionate, expressive composition with a range of harmonic manipulation. This piece is also widely recognized and commonly heard in pop culture, from children's toys and movies to TV commercials and more."
"Classical Classics" will also feature Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante K. 297b, with a solo by the York Symphony Orchestra Principal Winds. Sinfonia Concertante was composed over 200 years ago and is hailed as work that is charming and energetic and presents a particular musical challenge for the winds. Also on the program for this performance is Haydn's Symphony No. 3, which was considered the very first to have four movements in what became the standard arrangement: fast, slow, minuet and fast.
