On Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m., the York Symphony Orchestra (YSO) will hold a FREE classical concert for the public as a thank you for the community's ongoing support and participation throughout the recent selection process of the new YSO Music Director Lawrence Golan. This first concert of the YSO 2014-2015 season is being made available FREE to the community due to the generosity of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. and the Grumbacher family who are jointly sponsoring the event.
"This extraordinary act of support on the part of Bon-Ton and the Grumbacher Family could not come at a better time, as we get ready to launch an exciting first season under Maestro Lawrence Golan," says Jane Davis, President of the YSO Board of Directors. "We have already seen an 18 percent increase in subscriptions this season. This first concert is our way of saying thank you for the success we've seen so far and for the community's continued support. We encourage everyone to come and experience YSO firsthand on Oct. 18."
Concert highlights include Peter Boyer's New Beginnings; Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra by Chris Brubeck (featuring Chris Brubeck on bass trombone); and Antonin Dvoraks's Symphony No. 9 From the New World.
The concert will be held at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Reservations are not required as the concert will be first-come, first-served and seating will be general admission. Current ticket holders, including subscribers, will still have their seats reserved for them, and should expect a letter in the mail explaining the refund process.
