Examined Man Theatre will present the World Premiere of WHEN IN DISGRACE (HAPLY I THINK ON THEE), a drama written and directed by Damon Krometis. Previews begin January 23 at Off-Broadway's Theater at St. Clements with opening night slated for Wednesday, January 28.

Inspired by a true story, WHEN IN DISGRACE (HAPLY I THINK ON THEE) weaves a tale of shattered hope and personal destruction as three close friends are torn apart by jealousy, neglect, guilt, and ultimately, love. Combining rock music, iambic verse, and video games, When In Disgrace explores what leads youngsters to extreme acts of violence, and the eerie similarity between teenage melodrama and classical drama.

The production stars Alex Brown, Dan Cullen, Chelsey Brooke Donn (Nicholas Martin's The Corn is Green at Williamstown Theatre Festival),Danelle Eliav, Lauryn Fay Sullivan, and Patrick Vaill (Dionysus in JoAnne Akalaitis' The Bacchae, member of The Bats at The Flea) ) with designs by Rebecca Bernstein, John Sundling, Cesar Alvarez (The Lisps), and Paul Toben

Damon Krometis' plays include Thinking Makes It So, Epic Encounter, When You Come This Way Alone, (MAY)/BE, and Take Two. He is Assistant to the Artistic Director at Red Bull Theater, and has worked for the Tectonic Theater Project, Manhattan Theatre Club, Edge Theater, and INTAR. His NY directing credits include Thinking Makes It So (Examined Man), The Treatment (Center Stage), and Sitting on the Edge of the World (Manhattan Rep). He has also worked at the Williamstown Theatre Festival Workshop, where he directed Mohammed and the Sleeping Cat and Suzan Lori-Parks' 365 Plays. Regionally, Krometis has directed productions of Angels in America, References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot, Betty's Summer Vacation, and Sunrise Over the Gulf.

WHEN IN DISGRACE (HAPLY I THINK ON THEE) was originally conceived as The Poison Project, and was originally developed at the Williamstown Theatre Festival Workshop in August 2007. The play was further developed in February 2008, during a three-day workshop at Playwrights Horizons.

Founded in 2006, Examined Man Theatre is dedicated to creating and presenting new plays that examine the depths and limits of human potential. The company endeavors to engage audiences in an exploration of the complexities of the human condition through provocative storytelling. Examined Man's inaugural production, Thinking Makes It So at Center Stage in 2007, was nominated for a New York Innovative Theatre Award. Moises Kaufman, chair of the Artistic Advisory Board, called Thinking Makes It So "clear, bold, and innately theatrical. [Krometis] has a wonderful sense of play, but he's also unafraid of large and complicated issues."

WHEN IN DISGRACE (HAPLY I THINK ON THEE) runs January 23 - February 8. Performances are Wednesday - Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm & 8pm, and Sunday at 5pm with an added performance Monday, January 26 at 8pm.
