Legendary Australian Flautist Jane Rutter has been recognized by being awarded the prestigious French medal Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres.('Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters' is a French award of recognition for significant contributions to Arts &Literature.) Jane has devoted her life to French flute playing with a career of longevity that spans decades.

To celebrate this milestone Jane will perform an exclusive 75 minute 'cocktail hour' concert of French Classical repertoire on five different solo flutes at 7pm on Friday November 18, 2016, in the Utzon Room of the Sydney Opera. During the course of the concert Jane Rutter will be officially decorated by His Excellency Mr Christophe Lecourtier, Ambassador of France to Australia.

The concert includes French Gregorian Chant and works by Debussy, Devienne, Marais, Satie, Poulenc, Ferroud, Aznavour & philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau's solo arrangement of Vivaldi: Spring played on a handmade 1887 Louis Lot flute (the flute equivalent of a Stradivarius). Une jolie surprise: as a finale accordionist Marcello Maio will accompany Jane in a selection of popular French Chansons arranged for flute.

Jane Rutter is an expert in the French Flute School, which leads the world in sound, technique and elegance of expression on the instrument. She is the only Australian ever to have been invited to the prestigious International French Flute convention, La Vième Convention de la Flûte Française 2016. Jane will perform in Paris on 23 October.

Jane is a Renaissance woman, a fearless classical trailblazer who pioneered the trend of taking fine classical music to the people. Due to her French heritage, when she plays, her flute transcends traditional limits. With 22 solo albums under her belt she has played from The Sydney Opera House Concert Hall to Sydney's iconic Tilbury Hotel; From performing with transgender stars Carlotta & Simone Troy, to Baroque recitals at La Sainte Chapelle, Paris. "Jane Rutter, with her effortless long vocal-lines, her beautiful tone and her sensitive and expressive musicianship, is one of the great flute players." Richard Bonynge AC, CBE, Commandeur de l'Ordre National des Arts et des Lettres
