The Utah Symphony today announced that its acclaimed string musicians, led by Concertmaster Madeline Adkins, will perform a chamber music concert at St. Mary's Church in Park City on January 18, 2017. The "Serenade for Strings" performance features Mozart, Biber, Holst and Tchaikovsky in a chamber repertoire that reflects the overarching theme of folk song throughout the centuries.

Tickets are $35 ($15 for students) and can be purchased at www.utahsymphony.org or by calling (801) 533-6683.

Utah Symphony Concertmaster Madeline Adkins will lead the ensemble in Mozart's electrifying Divertimento, Biber's explosive military composition, Battalia, Holst's St. Paul's Suite, and Tchaikovsky's Serenade.

"This is an opportunity for our audience to experience an orchestra playing without a conductor," said Ms. Adkins. "An extremely collaborative atmosphere is created, both in rehearsal and performance, and the result is an intimate chamber music-like performance with the richness of an orchestral sound."

"Each piece on our program was composed in a different century, but the thread of folk song runs throughout, from the 17th century popular songs of Biber's time, to the famous 'Dargason' that Gustav Holst weaves in with Greensleeves in his 'St. Paul's Suite,' and the exciting folk tunes that Tchaikovsky incorporates into the final movement of the Serenade for Strings," continued Ms. Adkins.
