University of Cincinnati Welcomes 2012 World Choir Games Reps Today, 7/9

The University of Cincinnati will welcome international representatives from the 2012 World Choir Games in a special public event scheduled today, July 9. This welcome ceremony will commence with a 1 p.m. performance by the Cincinnati Children's Choir, an ensemble-in-residence at UC's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), followed by a brief reception and then an official welcome to the World Choir Council at 2 p.m.

These events are free and open to the community. Both the performance and welcome ceremony will take place in UC's Corbett Auditorium in CCM Village. A brief reception will be held in the Atrium of UC's Corbett Center for the Performing Arts before the welcome ceremony.

The official advisory board of the World Choir Games, the World Choir Council includes renowned choral leaders from more than 80 countries. The Council serves as a platform for international representatives to meet and discuss the position of the choral arts in different countries around the world.

Performances take place at Corbett Auditorium, College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Children's Choir performance and World Choir Council welcome ceremony are free and open to the general public. Parking is available in the CCM Garage (at the base of Corry Boulevard off of Jefferson Avenue) and additional garages throughout the UC campus. The award winning Cincinnati Children's Choir (CCC) is an educationally based choral program reaching the highest level of artistry. The learning environment is creative and explorative enabling the choir members to enjoy lasting relationships with children outside of their community, experience self-growth through musical insight and self-expression and develop a lifelong involvement with music while enhancing all aspects of the their lives. Now in it's 19th year, CCC has blossomed into a special gem in the Queen City's artistic crown. CCC members have toured Scandinavia, England, Ireland, Wales, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Canada and the United States.

The Cincinnati Children's Choir became Ensemble-in-Residence at CCM in August 2001. CCM gave the program a home with support from one the world's finest music schools. In return, the choir regularly collaborates with the CCM Music Education Division, the CCM Opera Department and the CCM Division of Ensembles and Conducting. With the residency, CCC welcomed members of the former CCM Children's Choir, founded in 1983 by Karen Wolff. The CCM Children's Choir also had a rich history of performances and recordings with CSO and CCM and provided CCC founder, Robyn Lana, with her initial training in children's choral conducting. The World Choir Games is the largest international choral competition in the world. Held every two years, previous games have been in Austria, China, Germany and South Korea. This will be the 7th World Choir Games, and it's being held in the United States for the first time July 4-14 in Cincinnati USA. The Games are the signature event of INTERKULTUR, Germany-based organization that produces choral events all over the world. More than 360 choirs from 48 countries have registered to participate.
