Top Int'l Summer Ballet Students Perform At Hartt During Culminating Performances 7/25

The inaugural International Summer Ballet Academy of the Hartt Community Division will present its culminating performances on Saturday, July 25, at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM at Lincoln Theatre on the University of Hartford campus, located at 200 Bloomfield Avenue in West Hartford. Students from throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and Japan will present an exciting array of works from the classical ballet repertoire as well as new pieces by Academy faculty. General admission tickets are $15. Youth 18 and under, seniors, and Let's Go Arts! members are admitted for $10. The International Summer Ballet Academy, occurring from June 29-July 26, 2009, offers advanced and intermediate dance students ages 12-21 an opportunity to study intensively with a world-class faculty. The Academy, with the talented faculty and students it has drawn to Hartford, represents another important step in the dance renaissance occurring at the Hartt Community Division. In the past year, the Community Division has appointed world-renowned dancer and teacher Miguel Campaneria as chair, moved into the state-of-the-art Handel Performing Arts Center, and significantly increased its enrollment.

Faculty at the International Summer Ballet Academy include Haydee Gutierrez, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center; Haiyan Wu, principal dancer, Miami City Ballet and gold medalist in the USA International Ballet Competition; Kurt Douglas, principal dancer with the Limón and Lar Lubovitch dance companies; and Hartt faculty members Miguel Campaneria, Debra Collins Ryder, and Lorelei Chang.

The Hartt School Community Division of the University of Hartford is a comprehensive community arts school providing instruction in music and dance for individuals of all ages and experience levels.
