Following critically acclaimed performances of its production of Sarah Kane's devastating drama 4.48 Psychosis at the Barbican in March this year, TR Warszawa under their inspirational director Grzegorz Jarzyna will return this autumn to the Barbican and bite10 to present T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T.
Based on the work of Pier Paolo Pasolini T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T. is a sequence of cinematic images aimed at demonstrating how the pressures of our contemporary global economy on domestic relations have segregated us from faith, tradition and the capacity to love. It is the story of a wealthy manufacturer whose family is destroyed by carnal attractions to an enigmatic visitor.
This multi award-winning production has been performed not only in Poland but in Los Angeles, USA, Wellington, New Zealand and Belgrade, Serbia. It makes its UK debut with these performances at the Barbican.
Grzegorz Jarzyna took the helm at TR Warszawa in 1998 when he was, at the time, the youngest theatre director in Poland. He is credited with reviving the theatre's reputation in the post-Communist era and has programmed an exciting and eclectic body of work including plays by
Neil LaBute,
Thomas Vinterberg,
Martin Crimp, Shakespeare and
Oscar Wilde. The company has toured extensively worldwide and at its home in Warsaw it attracts young and vibrant audiences.
The cultural programme of POLSKA! YEAR has been coordinated by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, a government institution in charge of promoting Polish culture abroad and initiating internation
Al Cooperation in the field of culture. It has involved 18 months of preparations including visits to Poland by more than 150 curators, cultural managers, artists and journalists.
The purpose of POLSKA! YEAR was to bring the communities of Poland and the UK closer by strengthening cultural relations and establishing new contacts between artistic institutions, artists and organisers of cultural events. This production is evidence of the legacy of relationships that were formed during the year's activities.
