The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestras (RIPYO) presents their final concert of the season, titled "A Day at the Movies," Sunday May 17 at 3pm at Roberts Auditorium, Rhode Island College. The concert features the top-level Symphony Orchestra conducted by Music Director Alexey Shabalin, Repertory Orchestra under the direction of Vincent Mattera, String Orchestra under the direction of Irina Naryshkova, and the Intermediate String Ensemble and String Ensemble under the direction of Erin Quinton Erban. Tickets are $11 adult, $6 student and senior citizen, and are available through the Rhode Island College box office http://www.ric.edu/pfa/orderinfo.php or 401.456-8144.

The Symphony Orchestra features RI Philharmonic Concerto & Aria Competition Winners: Alisa Smith (flute) andErica Smith (clarinet), of Jamestown and Troy Feng (piano) of Pawtucket. The Symphony's program will include Danzi'sSinfonia Concertante for Flute and Clarinet Op. 41, Movement III, Chopin's Grande Polonaise Brillante in E-Flat Major, Op. 22 and Dvorak's Slavonic Dances, Op. 46 No 8 and Op. 72 No. 8. The Repertory Orchestra, String Orchestra, Intermediate String Ensemble and Beginning String Ensemble will each play a program of Music from the Movies.

RIPYO provides quality orchestral rehearsal and performance experience for talented young musicians in from Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut and Massachusetts. Students range in age from elementary school through high school. YOUTH WIND ENSEMBLES

The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensembles (RIPYWE) will present their final concert of the season Sunday May 31 27 at 3pm at Barrington High School. The concert will include RIPYWE Senior Division under the direction of Eric Hewitt and RIPYWE Junior Division under the direction of David Neves. Tickets are $11 adult, $6 student and senior citizen, and are available at the door on the day of the concert.

RIPYWE Senior will feature clarinetists Erica Smith of Jamestown and Ryan Vallee of Cumberland performing Il Convegno, Divertimento per Due Clarinette by Amilcare Ponchielli, edit F. Ormand and K. Burke. RIPYWE Senior will also perform selections from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein/ arr. D.J. Duthoit, Four Scottish Dances, Op. 59 by Malcolm Arnold/ arr. John P Paynter, An American in Paris by George Gershwin/ arr. John Krance and Blue Shades by Frank Ticheli. RIPYWE Junior performs the music of R. Vaughan Williams, William Monk, Edvard Grieg, Brant Karrick and Henry Fillmore.

The Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School is the state's first and only community music school. The Philharmonic Music School serves students of all ages and ability levels, and provides instruction in all kinds of music, from jazz and rock to classical and folk, through private lessons, chamber music classes, and large and small ensembles. The majority of Philharmonic Music School programs take place at the state-of-the-art Carter Center in East Providence. Completed in 2008, the Carter Center is the largest dedicated community music school facility in New England.
