The Rhode Island Philharmonic POPS Orchestra will perform fourSummer Pops-2014 concerts in various locations in Rhode Island this summer, beginning with the BankRI Independence Day Celebration on Friday July 4th at India Point Park, Providence. BankRI's Independence Day Celebration is presented by the City of Providence and sponsored by BankRI, the Department of Art Culture + Tourism, the Department of Parks & Recreation, The Providence Tourism Council, Lite Rock 105, Providence/Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau and Narragansett Beer. Resident Conductor FRANCISCO NOYA will conduct the concerts. These concerts are free of charge and open to the public.
The Summer Pops-2014 program includes the well-known Festive Overture by SHOSTAKOVICH, WAGNER's Ride of the Valkyries, the Blue Danube Waltz by J. STRAUSS, and a Suite from Video Games Live, arranged by Ford. Other featured composers include BEETHOVEN, GRIEG, ELFMAN and SOUSA, among others.
FRANCISCO NOYA is a well-known figure in the Boston-New England music scene. He served as Music Director of the Longwood Symphony Orchestra in Boston for 12 seasons and is a prominent member of the Conducting Faculty at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. As Resident Conductor of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, he conducts Pops and Education concerts and the Summer Pops Series.
The dates and locations of Summer Pops-2014 are as follows:
Friday July 4 the RI Philharmonic Pops will perform at the BankRI Independence Day Celebration, produced by the City of Providence and the Providence Tourism Council, taking place at India Point Park in Providence at7:30pm. This concert is followed by a fireworks display. The rain date for this concert is Saturday July 5, same time and place.
On Friday July 11 the RI Philharmonic Pops will perform at Narragansett Town Beach at 8pm. The rain date for this concert is Saturday July 12, same time and place.
On Sunday August 31, time TBD, the RI Philharmonic Pops will perform at Independence Park in Bristol. The rain date for this concert will be Monday September 1 at the same location and time.
The final RI Philharmonic Pops concert of Summer Pops-2014, the Pawtucket Teachers' Alliance Pops in the ParkConcert, will take place on Saturday September 13, at Slater Park in Pawtucket, time TBD. This concert is presented as part of the Annual Pawtucket Arts Festival. The rain date for this concert is Sunday September 14, same time, same place.
