Hailing from the boogie down Bronx, the birth place of Hip-Hop, Mickey Factz isn't your traditional "b-boy." As he told the Fader Magazine, "I was always somebody who didn't want to be like everyone else...I need to be looked at, gawked at." Wearing raw denim from Rag & Bone, a Rocksmith Tokyo leather bomber, Prada specs and a pair of Supra, he's more Moon Walker than Child of the Ghetto. However, this unconventional child of the ghetto is the archetype for today's New Artist.

COMPLETE SCHEDULE for THE HIGHLINE BALLROOM:

EVERY SATURDAY LATE NIGHT at The Highline Ballroom:

NB: SRO - 21 or over to enter

The Rewind Show is a vision we have had for as long as we have been in the business of night clubs and event planning. We are tired of the same concept that every night-club in NYC has been stuck with over the years and think that it's time to change the way to party! As we all know nothing can compare to a live performance and therefore we have created the Rewind Show! We want to bring an experience like no other by combining the live music of the 80's Rock & Roll era along with the best DJ's spinning the present hits. Every Saturday night, the Highline Ballroom will operate as a high-end night club to let people experience the Rewind Show.

Monday, January 4
RYAN CABRERA
- MATT LOWELL and DION ROY
Presented by RocksOff Entertainment
File Under: Rock, Singer/Songwriter
Doors at 6:00pm, Show at 8:00pm
$12 adv, $15 at door
Guitarist, songwriter, and Texas native Ryan Cabrera never planned on a career in music. His hobby turned into a passion after hearing Dave Matthews, causing him to turn his back on the noisy punk rock of his high-school band, Caine, and pick up an acoustic guitar for the newly minted Rubic's Groove. The group found popularity in the Dallas area, sharing stages with Cheap Trick, Ben Harper, and Third Eye Blind, before Cabrera's departure. Making the most of a block of studio time -- a birthday present from his brother -- the high-school dropout cut three original songs that impressed the engineer enough to offer the opportunity to do a full-length -- for free. Elm Street was a self-released success, selling out locally and garnering favorable reviews and a deluge of Internet orders. In 2001, Cabrera signed to Atlantic, which scheduled the long-player Take It All Away for release in 2004.

Tuesday, January 5
TIERRA NEGRA and MURIEL ANDERSON
with special guests DANNY GOTTLIEB and NIKKI PARROTT
File Under: Jazz, World, Pop
Doors at 6:00pm, Show at 8:00pm
$25 adv, $27 at door
"She's not only magnificent but probably the best all around guitarist there is today. Teaming up with a pair of German flamenco guitarists ... this is a stunning, mindblower of a music date that genre bends so fluidly and fluently ... the only words that adequately describe it are the sounds Curly Howard makes when Christine MacIntyre tickles him under the chin. An utterly magnificent recording on all counts." - Midwest Record Reviews
In the world of modern Flamenco, few artists have attained the heights of Tierra Negra. In fact, so influential are these two German guitarists that they're often cited as the protagonists of Flamenco Nuevo, the new wave. Tierra Negra may infuse their sound with elements of folklore, jazz and even pop, but the theme never strays far from the infectious rhythm and melody of Rumba-Flamenco. So particular about their sound are Leo Henrichs and Raughi Ebert, Tierra Negra's founding duo, that they've even gone so far as to design their own range of Flamenco guitars. These high-end, professional instruments are built to such exacting standards that the likes of the Gypsy Kings will play nothing else. Performing together for over a decade, Leo and Raughi have already recorded eight albums and undertaken tours that have seen them alight festivals and concerts throughout Europe and North America. Their compositions are featured on countless international guitar compilations and Hollywood used their music for the movie "THE PERFUME". There is persuasiveness in the melody - an infectious groove and genuine passion in Tierra Negra's music. A TIERRA NEGRA live concert is a joyous, passionate and transforming experience for the audience - truly not to be missed. Widely respected as one of the world's foremost fingerstyle guitarists and harp-guitarists, Muriel Anderson is the first woman to have won the National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship. She is host of the renowned "Muriel Anderson's ALL STAR GUITAR NIGHT®" and founder of the Music for Life Alliance charity. Muriel Anderson has released eight CD's, four instructional DVD's and guitar books published by Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, and Zen-On Japan. Her music can be heard in Woody Allen's film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona." and her "Heartstrings" recording accompanied the astronauts on the space shuttle Discovery. Touring in the USA and internationally year round, Muriel's facility across musical genres is revered by guitarists, and her gentle sense of endears her audiences worldwide.

Wednesday, January 6
PRIVATE EVENT

Thursday, January 7
AU REVOIR SIMONE
- ALEXA WILDING and CLASS ACTRESS
File Under: Rock, Pop
NB: SRO
Doors at 7:00pm, Show at 9:00pm
$15 adv, $20 at door
In early 2008, the band took a break from touring and began writing new material. Produced by Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Little Joy) and recorded in various studios between Brooklyn, NY, and Los Angeles, CA, the result is the group's third album, Still Night, Still Light, released on the band's own label, Our Secret Record Company. Although it features songs written by all three members, the album has a strong thematic cohesion. The more expansive arrangements of The Bird of Music have given way to a new intimacy, one that cherishes reflection, seeking, questioning and losing one's place on the page while looking for the right way home. It also juxtaposes some of the band's quietest moments (the glacial grace of "The Last One") with some of its most raucous (the dizzying exuberance of "Anywhere You Looked"). Still Night, Still Light captures the band at its most exposed, relying on keyboards, drum machines and effortless voices to create a folk record without folk instruments, one that hums with resilience and wonder. Opener "Another Likely Story" dazzles with twinkling drones and fizzy synthetic hi-hats, while "Shadows" has a frenetic Fender Rhodes part paired with lyrics about escape. "Knight of Wands" shines with warbling organs and eagerly shares its ebullience. "We Are Here" is introspective, anchored by a kick-drum heartbeat and a glowing background pulse, and "Tell Me" sees Au Revoir Simone experimenting with tempo shifts more than ever before. With so many electronic components, the album gives off heat; within the songs lies a radiance that is instantly familiar. Au Revoir Simone's music has appeared in Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty, the Justin Theroux film Dedication and in numerous other TV shows and movies. The band is especially excited to count David Lynch as a fan - Annie, Erika and Heather met the legendary director while performing at a book reading in New York City. Lynch later brought Au Revoir Simone to Paris to perform at the Fondation Cartier during an exhibition of his artwork. In addition to their music, Annie, Heather and Erika are widely recognized for their inimitable sense of style and involvement in the fashion world. The band has appeared in features for periodicals such as Vogue and The New York Times Magazine, and has worked with fashion icons including Kate Spade, agnès b. and Isaac Mizrahi. Au Revoir Simone harnesses simple musical pleasures in order to craft an enchanting 3D world of texture, narrative and sound. Like the dialogue in 'Pee-wee's Big Adventure' that inspired the group's name, Au Revoir Simone's music is the heartfelt result of the three girls following their dreams.

Tyner continues to celebrate and plays songs from his latest CD on McCoy Tyner Music/Half Note Records and first solo recording in almost a decade titled Solo: Live From San Francisco. As a youth, Tyner was catapulted into the spotlight for his role in the John Coltrane Quartet, and at the Highline Ballroom, he will effectively pass the torch to another young pianist, the up and coming New Orleans native Jon Batiste, who Tyner has invited to perform as the opening act with his band. At the young age of 22, Batiste's versatility, incredible musicianship and understanding of the music's history prove that the future of jazz is in good hands.

This is the story of a band of dogs and cats (gatitos y perritos) from the streets of New York that go on to become the best salsa band in the land. BABY LOVES SALSA brings salsa to all kids and adults regardless of whether they speak English or Spanish or whether they dance on 1 or 2 or dance at all, everyone will move, everyone will sway, all will have loads of fun....... This project was conceived with the goal of helping young kids (2-6 years) learn all about salsa and all about Spanish in a way that parents and kids children can enjoy together. Baby Loves Salsa is performed by the Jose Conde band. The tunes are bilingual tunes - including "Somos la Banda" (We are the Band), "Bailar Rapido" (Dance Fast) and "Mi Familia es la Musica" (Music is My Family) among other originals. More than just Salsa for kids, singer-songwriter Jose Conde takes his Cuban roots and grafts them onto a dizzying range of Afro-Latin styles to bring to life an imaginary band of cats and dogs that create the ultimate special musical sauce (salsa especial). Baby Loves Salsa is a dance and music celebration geared toward Spanish and English speakers alike.
