The Canton Symphony Orchestra's popular Casual Series is relocating! All 1:00pm matinee performances will move to Foundation Hall at the Zimmermann Symphony Center (2331 27th Street NW, Canton) and the 8:00pm evening performances will be held at Tapas 218 restaurant in downtown Canton. The series begins October 16, 2014 with a Brass Quartet, featuring Tom Pylinski and Chris Graham on Trombone, Sean McGhee on Bass Trombone, and Yukitade Onitsuka on the Tuba. They will perform works by Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Bruckner, Debussy and Mancini. Additional concerts in the series will be Janaury 15 featuring Clarinet and Cello and March 12 featuring a String Trio.
The Casual Series spotlights small ensembles of Canton
Symphony Orchestra musicians performing music that is a combination of classical and contemporary in a setting that is relaxed and intimate. The musicians interact with the audience and share background information about the music on the program.
"When we were building
Foundation Hall, the Casual concerts were some of the performance offerings we thought would be a good fit for the space," says Michelle Mullaly, Executive Director of the CSO. "I am really excited to hear the musicians perform here." Tickets for the matinee are $15 for regular admission and $10 for students and seniors. A dessert and coffee reception for audience members and the performers is available after the concert and is included in the ticket price. Advance sale tickets for the event can be purchased by calling the box office at
(330) 452-2094 or by visiting
www.cantonsymphony.org. Tickets will also be available at the door.
Tapas 218 (218 Court Ave. NW, Canton) will host the evening performance on the same date beginning at 8:00pm. "We really wanted to bring the musicians into the community more," continued Mullaly. "Holding the evening Casual performances in a downtown restaurant definitely allows us to reach a broader audience." Tapas 218 will offer food and/or drink specials for each performance. "For the first evening, we are offering retail wine specials," says restaurant owner Tony Li. There is no cover charge for the evening performance. Those interested in attending the evening performance are encouraged to make a reservation by calling the restaurant at
330-456-3888.
