The Art of Andriessen starts this week at the New York Philharmonic, and two programs offer an intimate look at Dutch composer Louis Andriessen's music and influences.

"Going Dutch," October 7, kicks off the new-music series Sound ON with music by Louis Andriessen and his former students. Host and curator Nadia Sirota will interview Philharmonic musicians about the music through the performer's lens, and Music Director Jaap van Zweden will conduct Andriessen's Symphony for Open Strings. Watch Nadia sound off on Sound ON here.

The New York Philharmonic and National Sawdust will co-present the US Premiere of MUTED, October 8-9. Dubbed "the quietest violin piece ever written," MUTED was composed by Louis Andriessen, Michael Gordon, David Lang, and Julia Wolfe for Monica Germino after she was diagnosed with high sensitivity to sound. Written for violin, voice, and light design, MUTED is conceived for small groups of listeners in intimate spaces. Watch Ms. Germino perform a selection here.

The Art of Andriessen will also feature the World Premiere of Louis Andriessen's Agamemnon, TAO, a Nightcap concert curated by Andriessen, and The Juilliard School's AXIOM ensemble performing De Staat. Visit nyphil.org/andriessen for more.
