The Sydney Symphony Orchestra has today launched Backstage News+, a vibrant multimedia content hub featuring the latest stories, videos and photo galleries from the SSO.

This online news site is part of the organisation's existing website and will be the No. 1 destination for the latest news about SSO musicians, visiting artists, supporters, and education and concert programs.

Audiences and SSO fans around the world will be able to read about emerging trends in music from internationally renowned music commentators and composers, watch video interviews with visiting artists and hear first-hand from the SSO musicians about what inspires them as people and performers. They will also be able to listen to the orchestra's latest live recordings from the Sydney Opera House on SSO Radio, the orchestra's SoundCloud playlist.

For the launch of the site Australian heldentenor Stuart Skelton writes about Beethoven's mighty Missa Solemnis, composer-writer-broadcaster Andrew Ford explores the joys of composing for orchestra and SSO violist Amanda Verner reveals her favourite pieces in her all-black wardrobe.

Sydney Symphony Orchestra Managing Director Rory Jeffes said Backstage News+ is an exciting development in the Orchestra's digital initiatives that will enable the organisation to connect directly with its fans and audiences through the latest news and rich multimedia content.

"Backstage News+ is part of a suite of initiatives at the SSO designed to bring our audiences closer to the orchestra," Mr Jeffes said. "Like our new Playlist concert series - in which SSO musicians have programmed their favourite music - Backstage News+ will allow audiences to have a more personal concert experience and get to know our musicians.

"Changes in the media landscape during the past few years mean that organisations such as ours can also produce quality music journalism, sitting alongside mainstream news outlets.

"There could not be a better time to build on the existing enthusiasm for our digital resources with this exciting new hub for our stories and multimedia content," he added.
