On Thursday, January 29, the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts will present THE SCOTTISH TATTOO: THE MUSIC OF SCOTLAND. Led by famed Music Director and Pipe Major, Steven Dewar, Scotland's most talented musicians, bagpipe players, singers, and dancers will turn Toronto into Edinburgh for a special night of magic.
THE SCOTTISH TATTOO has an abundance of bagpipe players, drummers, musicians, singers and dancers representing the best of Scotland. No stranger to the entertainment industry, Steven Dewar has been playing the bagpipes since he was eight years old, having captivated world-wide audiences with his exuberant style for over 30 years, including the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens when he performed for the British Team, also entertaining Tony Blair and Princess Anne. And only a year later he was asked to play at J. K. Rowling's 40th Birthday Party in 2005.
This isn't the first time Dewar has dazzled Canadian audiences. In 2012, Dewar joined the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band from Mississauga, Ontario as a guest player. He also won the North American Championships and the PPBSO (Pipers and Pipe Bands Society of Ontario) 2012 Band Champion Supreme Winners, with the Peel Police.
A highlight to any Robert Burns day (January 25) celebrations, THE SCOTTISH TATTOO has music and dance that spans genres and centuries featuring contemporary music by Paul McCartney and the popular Highland dance to more traditional pieces by Robert Burns himself and the daring Sword Dance. The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo brings hundreds of thousands of spectators from around the world to Scotland every year, but lucky for haggis-loving Torontonians, THE SCOTTISH TATTOO is being brought to them!
