Sinfonia Toronto’s Masterpiece Series: "Mozart, Magnifico!" Announces Upcoming Season Dates

Sinfonia Toronto's 2009/2010 Masterpiece Series commences this Friday with Lara St. John, who was featured in "Canada's violin diva does The Lark."

The Masterpiece Series will play on Friday, November 13th at 8 pm with a return by Italian virtuoso pianist Antonio Di Cristofano. The program includes CHAN KA NIN Poetry on Ice; MOZART Piano Concerto K 449; and SCHUBERT Death and the Maiden.

Hailed as "a pianist of monumental proportion," Antonio Di Cristofano has performed as soloist with many of the most important orchestras in Italy, as well as Europe and the US. His critically acclaimed debut CD of recordings of Schubert's piano works was recently followed up with a CD of Brahms, Berg and Scriabin.

The Sinfonia Toronto concert will also feature a work by Toronto composer Chan Ka Nin. TwIce The winner of the Juno Award for Best Classical Composition, his works have also been performed by ensembles such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Esprit Orchestra, Amici, Mirò Quartet, the Gryphon Trio, and Purcell Quartet.

Sinfonia Toronto is comprised of thirteen virtuoso string players, and is "a world-class ensemble" according to Germany's Russelsheimer Echo. They perform standing, in the tradition of great chamber orchestras, under the direction of Music Director and Conductor Nurhan Arman. The Toronto Star writes of "a remarkable range of colour...ample eloquence... and gripping authority," while La Scena Musicale declared "Nurhan Arman and his orchestra literally conquered us." Their most recent CD, Flanders Fields Reflections features the 2009 Juno Award winner for Classical Composition of the Year, a Sinfonia Toronto commission composed by John Burge.

Gala event: Saturday, February 13 at 8 PM: Latin Lovers Ball at Arcadian Court.
