Seattle Center Winterfest - Weekend Activities

From championship jump roping to soulful music, Seattle Center Winterfest continues its line-up of truly inspiring, enchanting and enriching seasonal offerings. Seattle's Best Jazz opens the weekend Friday night and Saturday morning. The Magic of Budd & Durbin highlights Saturday afternoon entertainment, and Lelavision "Physical Music" fills the stage on Sunday. All performances are free and open to the public.

Winterfest also offers Saturday afternoon ice sculpting and fireside sing-alongs. The Winter Train and Village return this year, along with Winterfest Ice Rink and Classic Carousel.

Seattle's Best Jazz
Friday, Dec. 11, 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 12, 11 a.m.
Center House
National award-winning Garfield H.S. Jazz Band led by the great Clarence Acox performs, joined on Friday night by Houston Person and James Cadell. Saturday's show features the Jazz Band performing seasonal and popular tunes.

Ice Sculpting
Saturday, Dec. 12, 12 noon - 2 p.m.
Outside Fisher Pavilion
Artistry and ice unite in a glorious and temporal expression of the season as internationally acclaimed, award-winning artists create seasonal sculptures. Watch while they work or stop by later to see the glistening result. Each Saturday an ice master will carve a different design.

Jump Rope Exhibition by Hot Dog USA
Saturday, Dec. 12, 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 23, 3:30 p.m.
Center House
The Hot Dog USA Jump Rope Team has been performing, competing, and teaching jump rope around the country and around the world since 1980. This isn't your standard school-yard jump rope! Based in Kirkland, the team consists of about 50 boys and girls ranging in age from 6 years to adults.

The Magic of Budd & Durgin
Saturday, Dec. 12, 3 p.m. (and Monday, Dec. 21, 1:30 p.m.)

These award-winning magicians feature grand illusion, stunning levitation, acrobatics, manipulation, doves, disappearances and more in a show packed with excitement, comedy, and fast paced action.

Fireside Singing
Saturdays, Dec. 12, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Outside Fisher Pavilion
Take a mid-weekend break from the frenzy of the season and share in warmth and music around the crackling flames of a bonfire. Folksinger Hank Cramer will lead passers-by in a mix of original, traditional and contemporary folk holiday songs as embers illuminate the night.

A Christmas Story (rated PG)
Saturday, Dec. 12, 7 p.m.

The only thing Ralphie Parker wants for Christmas is an official Red Ryder BB gun. But will he survive run-ins, mishaps and bunny feet? This classic holiday film by Bob Clark will delight audiences as they re-live the anticipation and the heart-ache of youth at Christmas time.

Seattle Flute Society
Sunday, Dec. 13, 12 p.m.
Center House
This choir of 20 Seattle flutists promotes an appreciation of the instrument by featuring the entire flute family - from the piccolo at the high end down to the rare contrabass flute at the low end in a concert of classical, jazz, baroque, ethnic and contemporary flute music.

Lelavision "Physical Music"
Sunday, Dec. 13, 2 p.m.
Center House
Music and movement meld as performers play ingenious musical sculptures and use choreographed movement to create an original score. Lelavision offers physical agility and musical prowess buoyed with humor centered around themes of invention, discovery and play.

Klez Katz
Sunday, Dec. 13, 4 p.m.
Center House
Performing the rich music of the Yiddish diaspora, Klez Katz brings to life a world of vibrant folk songs, theater music and Yiddish tunes - with a bit of Klezmer-influenced jazz tossed musically into the mix.
