South Shore Conservatory (SSC) has announced that Barnes & Noble in Hingham will once again host their annual performance marathon Performathon - Kids Helping Kids. For the second year in a row, the fundraiser is so popular with SSC students that it takes over the bookstore for three days. Performathon 2015 is scheduled for Friday, April 10 from 4 pm to 9 pm; Saturday, April 11, from 9 am to 6 pm; and Sunday, April 12, from 12 pm to 5 pm.
Performathon offers SSC students of all ages the opportunity to hone their performing skills out in the community, as they help raise money for SSC's Scholarship Fund by soliciting pledges from sponsors. Last year, well over 300 Conservatory students participated in Performathon and raised over 20% of the total financial aid budget.
Over the three-day period, Performathon participants perform in hourly "sets" throughout the day. Audience members stay for one, two or more "sets," and have time to browse the aisles of Barnes & Noble. Performances include solo and chamber pieces on piano, saxophone, flute, trumpet, guitar, oboe, clarinet, percussion, violin, viola and cello, as well as voice. In keeping with SSC's inclusive mission to provide access to quality education in the arts for all, Performathon - Kids Helping Kids ensures that Conservatory programs remain affordable for more segments of the population.
Audience members, parents and friends of SSC are encouraged to lend their support by sponsoring a Performathon participant. Donations and pledges can also be made online at www.sscmusic.org/Performathon.html. Friends can also help by making purchases at Barnes & Noble and mentioning South Shore Conservatory at checkout on April 10, 11 and 12. A percentage of each sale will be donated back to South Shore Conservatory. Those who cannot attend Performathon, but wish to help, may shop online at www.bn.com/bookfairs from April 10 through 17 and enter Bookfair Voucher #11384955 at checkout. SSC is very grateful to Barnes & Noble for its generous support and hospitality.
