The Royal Albert Hall is delighted to once again be awarded InterNational Theatre of the Year at the prestigious Pollstar Concert Industry Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Since 1994, the Hall has received this honour a record twelve times maintaining their leading position within the international entertainment industry.
The Pollstar Awards are voted by representatives of the music industry from all over the world -other finalists in this area included: HMV Hammersmith Apollo, IndigO2, the 02 Academy Brixton, the Auditorio Nacional, Mexico, Enmore Theatre, Australia and Heineken Music Hall, Netherlands.

It's a fantastic tribute to the Royal Albert Hall and the entire team that work here to bring 360 events into the main auditorium, not to mention everything that goes on in our smaller spaces. Of the fantastic and diverse range of International Artists and events featured at the Hall in 2009, highlights included the Children in Need charity event with Take That, Lily Allen, Cheryl Cole, Robbie Williams, Leona Lewis, Muse, Dizzee Rascal, Shirley Bassey and Sir Paul McCartney and the Teenage Cancer Trust concerts with performances from Kasabian, Stereophonics and Antony and The Johnsons.
Other fantastic headline performances were delivered by ABC, Lemar, Van Morrisson, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, The Killers, Ray LaMontagne, Elton John, Maximo Park, The Cult, The Fray, Morrissey, Diana Krall, Snow Patrol, Jools Holland, Yusuf Islam and Rufus and Martha Wainwright.
The BBC Proms featured virtuoso performers from around the world with highlights from the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, a Charles Darwin inspired Prom from the BBC Concert Orchestra featuring Sir David Attenborough and Goldie, a Bollywood Prom and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies conducting the UK premiere of his new Violin Concerto, performed by Daniel Hope. The annual Classical Brit Awards brought stars including Jose Carreras and Katherine Jenkins and The Aegon Masters Tennis tournament returned with Pat Rafter, Greg Rusedski and Goran Ivanisevic. The Royal Albert Hall also promoted successful productions of The King and I and Carmen in partnership with Raymond Gubbay and opened its brand new performance space, The Elgar Room, after a £1 million renovation.
