After his sell-out gig last November, Edinburgh Festival favourite Patrick Monahan makes a welcome to the Elgar Room on Friday 19 February. Presented by the Royal Albert Hall this stand-up performance, ‘PATRICK MONAHAN- STORIES AND FABLES FOR KIDS THAT LIKE SITTING AT TABLES', is comedy for children of all ages and is another example of the Elgar Room's varied programming for 2010.
Patrick has had a meteoric rise up the stand up comedy ladder. He has gone from open spot to headliner in an incredibly short length of time and is now a regular MC and headline stand up performer at the top London and UK comedy clubs including the prestigious Jongleurs circuit and the Comedy Store. In addition Patrick is now hugely in demand in front of camera as well as a TV warm up comedian, most notably on the 'Paul O'Grady Show', due to his hugely loveable persona and incredibly witty material.
Patrick now brings this show to the Elgar Room featuring new stories written and told by a 467 year old Middle Eastern storyteller. With plenty of audience interaction and fanciful fable- spinning this is a highly entertaining 55 minutes of playfully engaging banter. Patrick's shows have gone down a storm on the UK comedy circuit where he has been described as ‘playful, infectious and relentlessly affable' and 'a likeable comic with incredible verbal fluency.....an unstoppable force of nature'. This is a rare example of stand-up comedy to be enjoyed by both adults and children alike and is ideal entertainment for the whole family during February half term week.
Lucy Noble, Head of Programming at the Royal Albert Hall, said - "We are delighted to welcome Patrick back to the Elgar Room after his sell-out gig last November. He is a comedian of the highest quality and I'm sure children of all ages will be entertained by his blend of comedy and storytelling. It's wonderful that we can open up this new space for the whole family and continue the Elgar Room's eclectic programming".
This year the Elgar Room has already played host to an all-standing classical concert by acclaimed violinist Daniel Hope. Future events will also include live flute-beatboxing on 8 February and the fusion of flamenco and percussion with the talented Kataka on 22 February. During half term week, the Elgar Room will also welcome Albert's Band as part of the Hall's popular ignite series for a musical safari through the animal kingdom on 15 February.
Tickets for this must-see event are £6.50 and are available from www.royalalberthall.com Box office: 020 7589 8212
There will be two performances by Patrick Monahan on 19 February at 12 noon and 3pm.
