The Rhode Island Philharmonic YOUTH ORCHESTRAS (RIPYO) will hold auditions by appointment on June 1, 2, 3 and 4 for the Symphony Orchestra, Repertory Orchestra, String Orchestra, Intermediate String Ensemble and String Ensemble. RIPYO provides quality orchestral rehearsal and performance experience for talented young musicians from Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut and Massachusetts. The professional conducting staff, led by Music Director, Symphony Conductor and RI Philharmonic Orchestra Member Alexey Shabalin, is committed to providing the best educational experience for each student.
All RIPYO ensembles rehearse once weekly at the RI Philharmonic's Carter Center for Music Education & Performance in East Providence from September through May and present three major performances. RIPYO Symphony members also perform side-by-side with RI Philharmonic musicians conducted by Music DirectorLarry Rachleff at a Friday night Amica Rush Hour concert once each year.
YOUTH JAZZ ENSEMBLES:

The Jazz and Rock Department offers a complete educational program for students interested in jazz or rock study and performance. Courses are organized so that each student is placed according to their interests and skills and can progress accordingly. The RIPYJazz Big Band, under the direction of Wendy Klein, performs at numerous community events including Monday Night Jazz at Bovi's, Vernal Arts and Music Festival, and the Blackstone Boulevard Summer Concert Series.
All RIPYJazz ensembles rehearse at the RI Philharmonic's Carter Center for Music Education & Performance in East Providence once a week from September through May and present various performances throughout season.

Founded in 2002, RIPYWE offers advanced woodwind, brass and percussion students from Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut an outstanding opportunity to rehearse and perform high quality wind ensemble repertoire. RIPYWE offers these students a challenging and rewarding musical experience. RIPYWE Senior Division, conducted by Eric Hewitt and RIPYWE Junior Division is conducted by Music Director Dr. David Neves.
Both RIPYWE ensembles rehearse once weekly at the RI Philharmonic's Carter Center for Music Education & Performance in East Providence from September - May and present two major performances. RIPYWE Senior rehearses on Tuesday evenings and RIPYWE Junior rehearses on Wednesday evenings.

CHAMBER MUSIC
June 18-22 (Sat-Wed) 10am-2:30pm
This one-week intensive chamber music workshop is for young people and adults who play strings, woodwinds, brass or piano. Although prior chamber music skills are not required, applicants should have good music reading skills. In addition to daily coachings, the schedule includes rehearsals, master-classes and performances. Already established chamber groups are welcome and we offer a one-day enrollment for adults. Applications are due May 15. Applications received after May 15 will be handled on a space-available basis.
PIANO PLUS & PIANO KIDS
July 25 - 29 (Mon-Fri) 10am - 4:30pm
Piano Plus is an opportunity for intermediate and advanced students to enjoy their piano studies in a varied workshop that includes piano four hands (and more!), coaching, accompaniment, supervised practicing, and music appreciation class. We will have daily discussions on many aspects of piano playing including effective practicing, performance preparation, music memorization and more. Piano Plus Workshop will conclude with a recital of all the participants who will be featured accompanying soloists and playing piano pieces for four, six or eight hands.
Piano Kids is designed for beginners between the ages of 6 and 10 years old who are just starting their piano studies. The day will begin with warm -up piano exercises, then it will be filled with musical games, daily composers sessions and learning simple duets which will be performed in the recital.
Applications are due May 30. Applications received after May 30 will be handled on a space-available basis.
JAZZ ROCK & BLUES
July 25-29 (Mon-Fri) & August 1-5 (Mon-Fri) 10am - 4:30pm
This one or two-week intensive summer workshop for middle and high school music students gives students the opportunity to develop musicianship, collaborate with other musicians and gain confidence in performance. Curriculum includes Music Theory, Improvisation, Introduction to Recording Studio, Styles Class for Drummers and Latin Percussion. Prior jazz, rock & blues experience is not required. Applications are due June 15. Applications received after June 15 will be handled on a space-available basis.
ALTERNATIVE STRINGS ENSEMBLE
This 6 week summer alternative styles string ensemble will explore different string playing techniques used in rock, jazz and folk music. Come learn to chop, improvise and play chords on your instrument along with a drummer and keyboard player, then incorporate these into some familiar songs. This group is open to any string player with 3+ years of experience. Perfect for older strings players that want to have fun, and a great challenge for younger players. No audition required! Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00pm; start date is June 28th.

The Philharmonic Music School serves students of all ages and ability levels, and provides instruction in all kinds of music, from jazz and rock to classical and folk, through private lessons, chamber music classes, and large and small ensembles. More than 70 dedicated teachers comprise the faculty, many with degrees from some of the finest music schools in the world. The majority of Philharmonic Music School programs take place at the state-of-the-art Carter Center in East Providence. Completed in 2008, the Carter Center is the largest dedicated community music school facility in New England. We also offer lessons in a welcoming, well equipped environments at our East Greenwich Branch.
