German-born pianist Andreas Klein joins the esteemed Minguet Quartett for a delightful and thoughtful program that pays homage to the enigmatic, iconic Canadian composer and pianist, Glenn Gould. Klein has distinguished himself as a compelling performer with his command of a wide range of tonal colors and imaginative interpretations. The New York Times praises him as "a pianist who makes silences sound like music." A lauded string quartet, the Minguet performs at major European concert venues such as London's Wigmore Hall and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, among others. The provocative program includes J. S. Bach's The Art of the Fugue - Contrapuncti 1, 3, 4 and 9 and his Concerto in D minor BWV 1052, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's Capriccio (op. 81) and a rare performance of Gould's String Quartet, op. 1.
At 6:30pm, one hour prior to the performance Ovations Offstage offers a free pre-performance lecture, Bach and Gould: point counter point with Mary K. Hunter, A. LeRoy Greason Professor of Music at Bowdoin College introducing listeners to ways of hearing this music and understanding the connections between the works on the evenings program.
