One of the most sought-after pianists for solo recitals and appearances with major orchestras, American virtuoso Jonathan Biss will perform works by Schumann, Schoeberg and Beethoven in a 7:30 p.m. concert Jan. 13 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Lied Center for Performing Arts. Tickets at $36 are available at http://www.liedcenter.org, at the Lied Center Box Office, 301 N. 12th St., or by phone at 402-472-4747.

UNL students can obtain tickets at a 50 percent discounted price via UNL Marketplace. Widely admired for his artistry, musical intelligence and deeply felt interpretations, Biss has won international recognition for his orchestral, recital and chamber music performances and for his award-winning recordings. Biss continues to play in the major recital series in the United States and Europe as he twice opened the Master Piano Series at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Salzburg, Lucerne and Edinburgh Festivals, the Beethovenfest in Bonn and the Mariinsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg. Biss's performance on Jan. 13 marks the fourth performance of the Lied season's Beethoven Festival.

The Lied Center, UNL's Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts and Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra have partnered for a campuswide celebration honoring Beethoven. Beethoven's works are featured throughout the Lied Center's 25th anniversary season's classical music performances.

All of the Piano Series artists will showcase at least one solo piano work by Beethoven. Remaining Beethoven Festival events include the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Lied Center Feb. 6, a performance by UNL violinist Clark Potter Feb. 8 at Kimball Recital Hall and a concert by Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra April 25 at the Lied Center.
