The Philadelphia Orchestra will embark upon a European Tour in 2015, ending in two performances at the South Bank Centre in London.

Mayor Michael Nutter made the announcement at a reception during a trade mission to the United Kingdom and Israel to promote the city and attract international investment to Philadelphia.

The orchestra will be in London on June 5 and 6, 2015, for two performances with its new music Director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, former Principal Guest Conductor of the London Philharmonic.

Yannick is only the 8th music director in the Philadelphia Orchestra's 114 year history.

In 1949, the orchestra performed 28 concerts in 27 days, marking the first time an American orchestra had crossed the Atlantic after World War II.

The orchestra also joined Mayor Nutter on a December 2012 visit to China, during which time the orchestra was able to finalize details and secure sponsorship for a concert in Tianjin in June 2013.
