Phil Hall-- musical director, arranger and creator of The Philhallmonics and frequent performer with The Philhallmonics at the Lincoln Center Library Concert Series--is delighted to present a special concert called Legacy to be presented at the Bruno Walter Auditorium (Lincoln Center Library of the Performing Arts, 40 Lincoln Plaza - Enter on Amsterdam at 65th Street) on Thursday, November 10th at 6:00 pm. This special show is Free and open to the public (first come first serve).
"Legacy" features Philhallmonics favorites Karen Arlington, Linda Moshier, Bruce Rebold, John DiBartolo as well as Gelan Lambert, Mary Lee Marson, Bill Newhall, Erica Penn and Julie Waldman-Stiel. The band for the show includes: bj Karpen (Oboe), Peter Calo (Guitar), Pete Donovan (Bass) and Chris Marshak (Drums). The Sound Design is by Bob Rendon and the Projectionist is Bob Westerfeld.
When asked why he felt such passion about launching his new show, Legacy, Mr Hall replied, "During this Presidential campaign, it's been difficult for me to even follow the Presidential race for the White House because of the bullying tenor of the primaries, and the emphasis on winning at all costs no matter who, and how many are thrown under the bus in the process. I think that we, as Americans, are better than this. And even if we did not have the United States in common, we, as human beings and global citizens, need to treat one another with more kindness, compassion and dignity. It also made me realize how important art is as a measure of who we are, and what we leave behind or pass down to subsequent generations."
Legacy will feature songs of happiness, hope, and inspiration from some classic and recent Broadway musicals as well as a few songs from beloved films, as well as Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah".
Phil Hall, throughout his career, has created significant achievements in just about every aspect of the musical theater industry. On Broadway, he was the conductor for Play Me A Country Song and was the associate conductor for the revival of Mame, which starred Angela Lansbury. Phil was also the musical director and conductor for dozens of productions including Phantom, the national tour of Cats,Side By Side By Sondheim, The Merry Widow, 42nd Street, The Desert Song and The Wizard of Oz. Throughout the United States his work was featured at such renown venues as the Kennedy Center, the Paper Mill Playhouse, Atlanta's Theater of the Stars, Houston's Theatre Under The Stars, Seattle's Fifth Avenue Theatre and the Michigan Opera Theatre. Onstage, Phil played the role of Jake in Paper Mill's production of Show Boat, which aired on PBS' Great Performances series. On film, Phil played a vocal coach and pianist in the Mira Sorvino-produced, Griffin Dunne-directed film, "Lisa Picard Is Famous." Phil's vocal arrangements, featured in the musical revue,SophisticatEd Ellington were presented at Carnegie Hall, conducted by the Erich Kunzel with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.
