Peak Performances Hosts The Shanghai Quartet's 30th Anniversary Concert Tonight

2013 marks the 30th anniversary of The Shanghai Quartet. To celebrate in musical fashion, the artists will perform some their most beloved music in a special Friday night concert, tonight, April 12 at 7:30pm at the Alexander Kasser Theater in Montclair, New Jersey. The concert is presented by Peak Performances.

Along with selections of Schubert, Dvo?ák, plus Chausson and Mozart (both with guest pianist David Witten), soprano Ying Huang will perform selections from "ChinaSong". Written and arranged by Shanghai Quartet violinist Yi-Wen Jiang, "ChinaSong" mixes traditional and popular Chinese folk music with the classic western string quartet music.

Formed in 1983 at the Shanghai Conservatory, The Shanghai Quartet, comprised of Weigang Li, violin; Yi-Wen Jiang, violin; Honggang Li, viola; and Nicholas Tzavaras, cello, have been the Quartet- in-Residence at the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University since 2002. The Quartet members are visiting guest professors at the Shanghai Conservatory and the Central Conservatory of China.
