CANTON, OHIO (February 25, 2015) - As the Canton Symphony Orchestra launches its two-month long Beethoven Festival, the next installment of the ConverZations lecture series will focus on the various types of pianos known to Beethoven. M. J. Albacete, retired Executive Director of the Canton Museum of Art will lead the discussion Monday, March 9 at 12:00noon. ConverZations are free public discussions featuring a variety of musicians and music-lovers alike. The series, sponsored by T. K. and Faye A. Heston and Ohio Humanities, takes place at noon on the second Monday of every month from September 2014 to May 2015 in the Zimmermann Symphony Center (The Z), 2331 17th St. NW, Canton.

M. J. Albacete recently retired as the Executive Director of the Canton Museum of Art, having been with the museum since 1976. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Walsh University and Master of Arts from the University of Akron. Albacete has been the recipient of many travel grants which have provided him with opportunities to visit museums and historic sites overseas, including the Prehistoric Caves of France, tours of Israel and Egypt, Spain, Italy and England. With music being a second passion of his, Albacete has served as music reviewer for Fanfare Magazine and for the Canton Symphony Orchestra for The Repository. He is a member of the Ohio Humanities Council's Speakers Bureau and an adjunct professor at Kent State University.

For the ConverZations discussion, Mr. Albacete will survey several of the various pianofortes made by artisans from Austria, France and Italy during Beethoven's time. He will also provide short excerpts of recordings by period ensembles performing Beethoven's pieces. The multi-media lecture will explore how Beethoven might react to hearing his compositions performed by modern day musicians with contemporary instruments in comparison to the ones of his time.

ConverZations attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch, and the orchestra provides a light dessert. For more information on upcoming ConverZations lectures and other events run by the Canton Symphony Orchestra, visit www.cantonsymphony.org/converzations.
