"What a wonderful reason to bring together people who love the North Carolina Symphony," says host Florence Peacock. "Hill Hall on the UNC-CH campus is where this fine orchestra began in May 1932, and so to Chapel Hill we come to celebrate 80 years of service to our state. It is so impressive how hard the musicians, the board and the community have worked to get us to this point. We plan to continue to build support, old and new. With the help of our friends at A Southern Season, we get to mark this fun occasion with great food and a great birthday party."
"There will be tastings and product demonstrations throughout the store by A Southern Season's finest vendors," says Symphony Vice President for Philanthropy Mary Mc Lawson. "Patrons can also expect to interact with North Carolina Symphony musicians and our music director, Grant Llewellyn. We'll have a truly festive and fun evening to celebrate our milestone birthday!"
"We are bringing together two prominent local institutions," says A Southern Season Vice President of Marketing Carly Varney. "We are delighted and honored to host the North Carolina Symphony's celebration of its 80th Anniversary. We look forward to creating a memorable evening filled with exquisite flavors, magical moments and jubilee."
Founded in 1932, the North Carolina Symphony performs over 175 concerts annually to adults and school children in more than 50 North Carolina counties. An entity of the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources, the orchestra employs 67 professional musicians, under the artistic leadership of Music Director and Conductor Grant Llewellyn, Resident Conductor William Henry Curry and Associate Conductor Sarah Hicks.
Based in downtown Raleigh's spectacular Meymandi Concert Hall at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts and an outdoor summer venue at Booth Amphitheatre in Cary, N.C., the Symphony performs about 60 concerts annually in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary metropolitan area. It holds regular concert series in Fayetteville, New Bern, Southern Pines and Wilmington-as well as individual concerts in many other North Carolina communities throughout the year-and conducts one of the most extensive education programs of any U.S. orchestra.
