The New 42nd Street and The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) are pleased to announce that The New 42nd Street will present CTH's new production of Langston Hughes's Black Nativity, starring award-winning actor André De Shields.

De Shields's Broadway credits include The Wiz, Ain't Misbehavin', Play On!, The Full Monty, and Prymate.  Adapted and directed by CTH Artistic Director Alfred Preisser, Black Nativity will begin performances at The Duke on 42nd Street (229 West 42nd Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues) from November 30 and continue until December 30.

"One of the most beloved works of Langston Hughes, Black Nativity delivers a powerful message of joy, hope, victory and liberation. Set in 1973 Times Square, this new adaptation provides a colorful environment for exuberant African-American music and dance, with classic and beloved gospel standards, infused with soul, R&B and hip-hop. Employing The Classical Theatre of Harlem's signature style of boldness, energy and physicality, and featuring members of The Shangilia Youth Choir of Kenya, Black Nativity will be a treat for the holidays," describe press notes.

Alfred Preisser directs Black Nativity.  Music direction is by Kelvyn Bell, choreography is by Tracy Jack, scenic design is by Troy Hourie, lighting design is by Aaron Black, and costume design is by Kimberly Glennon.
