MoMA Modern Jazz Social To Transform Museum Into Jazz Club, 4/27

The Museum of Modern Art's Modern Jazz Social, a benefit and live music performance, will turn the Donald B. and Catherine C. Marron Atrium into a jazz club featuring performances by Jon Batiste and ELEW on April 27. An after-party, featuring a performance by MeLo-X, will run from 9:30 p.m. to midnight in the Agnes Gund Garden Lobby.

The event is organized by The Friends of Education, a MoMA affiliate group dedicated to raising public awareness of African American artists, supporting the Museum's education initiatives, and encouraging the participation of African Americans at MoMA. Proceeds from the Modern Jazz Social directly support the Friends' efforts, and in 2015 the benefit raised funds to help the Museum acquire such works as John Akomfrah's The Unfinished Conversation (2012), Romare Bearden's Other Mysteries 1/6 (1964), and Adrian Piper's The Barbie Doll Drawings (1967), and to support the acclaimed exhibition One-Way Ticket: Jacob Lawrence's Migration Series and Other Visions of the Great Movement North.

Tables to the event range from $7,500 to $25,000, with individual tickets beginning at $500. Individual tickets for the after-party are available for purchase at $150.
