"Conversations with Chevaliers: Meredith Monk with Adam Gopnik" is set for February 12, 2014 at 8:15 pm at the 92Y, Buttenwieser Hall.
Spend an evening with this artist hailed as "a magician of the voice" and "one of America's coolest composers", as she talks with The New Yorker's Adam Gopnik about five decades of exploration and creativity.
A pioneer in what is now called "extended vocal technique" and "interdisciplinary performance," Monk creates works that thrive at the intersection of music and movement, image and object, light and sound in an effort to discover and weave together new modes of perception. Over the years her work has come to be celebrated internationally; both Monk and Gopnik have been recognized by the French government for their extraordinary contributions to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world.
The Conversations with Chevaliers series highlights the contributions of the artists and intellectuals from around the world who have received prestigious French awards such as the Legion of Honor or the Order of Arts and Letters.
