Now in its 35th year of diverse multidisciplinary arts programming, and under the artistic leadership of Laura Kaminsky, Symphony Space announces its 2013/2014 season of inventive works by renowned musical artists, authors, and performers. Primary to Kaminsky's artistic vision are a commitment to new and innovative work, and the fostering of an atmosphere of intimacy and access between artists and audience. This 35th season at Symphony Space promises just that with staple series and programs such asSelected Shorts hosted by BD Wong, Bloomsday on Broadway, Wall to Wall, and weekly family performances with Just Kidding, as well as newer series and inaugural partnerships such as Thalia Film Club hosted by Marshall Fine, Royal Opera House Cinema in HD presented in partnership with WQXR and the Royal Opera House, and the critically-acclaimed comedy debate series Uptown Showdown.

Throughout the year, award-winning documentary films are screened every Sunday as part of the Thalia Docs film series. The Iron Mule Short Comedy Film Series joins Symphony Space's Comedy roster in July after a successful run at 92YTribeca. The live performance season kicks off on October 7 with "Kurt Weill on Broadway," featuring excerpts from One Touch of Venus with performers including Le Train Bleu chamber orchestra, Melissa Errico, and Victoria Clark. Selected Shorts with host BD Wong opens with "The Stories of John Updike" on October 16, with Tony Kushner and Sally Field. On October 19 singer/songwriter Dar Williams returns for an evening in concert, and onOctober 25 Poland's living legend, composer Krzysztof Penderecki, appears in concert and as a WQXR-Q2 broadcast as part of In the Salon, an intimate conversation and performance series. OnJanuary 17 the folk radio program "Woody's Children" celebrates its 45th anniversary in concert with Tom Paxton, Tom Chapin, and more surprise guests to come. Author Neil Gaiman returns to Symphony Space after his sold-out final book tour appearance in June 2013 to curate an evening of Selected Shorts on May 7.

The 2013/2014 season culminates with the Sleeping Around Festival in May 2014. This multi-disciplinary celebration of the culture, history, art, scene, and scandal of New York's most famous hotels is the fourth such thematic celebration since Kaminsky became Artistic Director in the 2010/2011 season. Bringing together the performance genres and artists of Symphony Space, this month-long festival represents the zeitgeist of New York City through the ages as well as the fusion of Symphony Space's multiple disciplines.

Performances take place in the 760-seat Peter Jay Sharp Theatre and the intimate cabaret-like Leonard Nimoy Thalia, where audiences are encouraged to come early, stay late, and enjoy drinks and snacks from Symphony Space's underground café, Bar Thalia.

For 35 years, Symphony Space has produced and presented artistically and culturally diverse music, literary, family, and film programs that bring artists and audiences together in an atmosphere of exploration and intimacy. Its signature events include Selected Shorts, hosted by BD Wong and nationally broadcast on public radio; Bloomsday on Broadway; andWall to Wall free music marathons.
