MYSO Presents Two Spring Concerts at Carroll University, May 19 & 20

 

Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra presents the second of three Spring Concerts on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at 7:00 PM, Shattuck Auditorium, 218 N. East Ave., Waukesha, on the Carroll University campus, featuring MYSO's acclaimed Chamber Orchestra, the Flute Chorale and String Orchestras North and South performing works of Verdi, J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, and more.

Through the John Downey Creation Project, a joint project with Milwaukee's Present Music, a world premiere performance will be featured on the May 19 program: An Enigma's Closure composed by Shawn Head, 18, of Franklin, performed by the Chamber Orchestra.

On Sunday, May 20, 2012, 3:00 PM, MYSO will present its third Spring Concert, at Shattuck Auditorium, 218 N. East Ave., Waukesha, on the Carroll University campus, featuring MYSO's Philharmonia, Chamber Flute Ensemble and String Orchestras West and Central.

MYSO's Chamber Flute Ensemble performance will feature 14-year-old flute soloist Max Lin, of New Berlin, the winner of this year's Chamber Flute Ensemble Concerto Competition performing the first and second movements of Pergolesi's Flute Concerto in G Major. Max has been playing flute for five years and studies flute with Judith Ormond. Also on the May 20 program will be the solo performance of the first movement of Viotti's Violin Concerto, No. 23 in G Major by Samantha Carter, of Delevan, accompanied by the Philharmonia orchestra. Samantha, age 14, is the winner of the 2012 Philharmonia Concerto Competition. She studies violin with Pamela Simmons.

Through the John Downey Creation Project, a joint project with Milwaukee's Present Music, two world premiere performances will be featured on the May 20 program: Dream Scape composed by 13-year-old Nova Terkhorn, of West Allis, performed by the String Orchestra; and Rise and Rise Again co-written by Torrin Hallet, 16, and Frances Way, 15, both of of Oconomowoc, for MYSO's Philharmonia.
