Jon Robertson, dean of Lynn University's Conservatory of Music and Philharmonia guest conductor, today invited the public to attend 18 musical performances during January and February 2017.
"Our talented students and extraordinary faculty look forward to sharing the beautiful world of music throughout our seventh season in the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center, a world-class concert hall that enhances our performing artists' musical offerings," said Robertson. "We will present a variety of musical offerings designed to enrich the artistic spirit and nourish the soul."
This season's Conservatory of Music concerts run through April in the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center, the Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall and the new Snyder Sanctuary, all located on Lynn's Boca Raton campus.

Beethoven Master Class with pianist Daniel Shapiro
Daniel Shapiro is recognized for his interpretations of Schubert, Mozart, Schumann, Brahms and Beethoven, whose 32-sonata cycle he has performed twice, and as a teacher and coach at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He won the William Kapell International Piano Competition and the American Pianists Association Beethoven Fellowship Award.

Lynn Wind Ensemble
The Wind Concerto: Movement 1

Witness the talent and virtuosity of the Lynn Wind Ensemble in its first installment of a series of concerts featuring original music for wind ensemble. Soloists from the woodwind, brass, percussion and piano departments will include students, alumni and faculty member Lisa Leonard performing concerti by Stravinsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and others.

All Beethoven with Pianist Yael Weiss
Hailed for her visionary interpretations, Weiss has performed at venues such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Benaroya Hall, the Kennedy Center, Moscow's Bolshoi Hall and London's Wigmore Hall. She has appeared as a soloist with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Brazil Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, The Santa Fe Symphony and the New Bedford Symphony, in addition to performing at Marlboro, Banff, Ravinia, Caramoor and the Seattle Chamber Music festivals. The solo recital is part of the 2017 January Term for pianists "Focus on Beethoven."

Master Class with Yael Weiss
Yael Weiss has been honored with distinguished prizes from The Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Piano Competition and the Naumburg International Piano Competition. She is a recipient of the Presser Music Award, as well as grants from the American-Israel Cultural Foundation. She studied at the Mannes School of Music and the Peabody Conservatory. Weiss has presented master classes worldwide and served on the faculties of Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, UC Santa Barbara and the Heifetz International Music Institute.

Beethoven Lecture with Yael Weiss
Weiss has presented performances of the complete cycle of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas, as well as lectures and workshops devoted to these masterpieces. Among her other special projects are performances of Beethoven's complete Piano Trios.

Shostakovich
Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975) lived in the Soviet Union where the state considered propaganda the highest aspiration of art. How could he still create his masterworks? This musical journey shares how he became one of the great composers of the 20th century. Mostly Music was conceived and is hosted by Marshall Turkin and is staged by Jan McArt.

Witness the birth of music as it is first performed. This will be Lynn's 100th world premiere, featuring the works of our composition majors, with the music performed by the composers and their peers.

Master Class with Eric Ewazen
Eric Ewazen received music degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Juilliard. He is the recipient of numerous composition prizes. His works have been commissioned and performed by soloists and orchestras in the United States and overseas.

Spotlight No. 2: Music of Eric Ewazen
The audience will love Eric Ewazen after hearing this program. A Music Connoisseur reviewer wrote, "Ewazen sunbathes the ears in triadic sonority and understands the rhythms and rather different complexities of our own fin de siècle. Despite its unabashed Romanticism, this music could not have been written at any other time." This program premieres the 2016 Lynn commissioned work.

Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition
Established by Distinguished Artist-in-Residence Elmar Oliveira in collaboration with the Lynn Conservatory of Music, this new violin competition will take place once every three years. The mission is to provide talented violinists, ages 16-32, networking, management, public relations, concert opportunities and a monetary prize. The first panel includes esteemed judges: Andrés Cárdenes, Charles Castleman, Gudny Gudmundsdottir, Daniel Heifetz, Ilya Kaler, Vera Tsu, Wei Ling and Elmar Weingarten. Winners will be chosen through a four-step process, culminating in two performances. Guillermo Figueroa will conduct the Lynn Philharmonia and the finalists. An awards ceremony follows the final concert.

Violin Master Class with Elmar Oliveira
Internationally renowned performer Elmar Oliveira, Lynn's Distinguished Artist in Residence, is a devoted teacher and promoter of young violinists. He was the first violinist to receive the coveted Avery Fisher Prize and the first and only American violinist to win the Gold Medal at Moscow's prestigious Tchaikovsky International Competition.

Viola Mini-Recital and Master Classes with Gilad Karni
Violist Karni, praised throughout the world for his tone and interpretation, takes the stage with pianist Anna Keiserman. They have performed together at the Zurich Tonhalle and throughout Israel, with upcoming concerts in Europe and the United States.

Jefferson Campbell, bassoon
Guest artist Jefferson Campbell is associate professor of bassoon and head of the wind department at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Campbell joins Lynn's own Eric Van der Veer Varner in a program featuring the "noble bassoon."
