The famed Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC) Concert Choir, led by Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson, tours to Northern California to make its debut at Stanford University's newly opened Bing Concert Hall with a program entitled "Celebrating American Song," featuring the world premiere of The Plentiful Peach by composer/sound engineer Mark Grey and librettist Niloufar Talebi, on Sunday, April 19, 2015. The work, based on the beloved Persian children's story Yek Hulou, Yek Hezar Hulou, was commissioned by LACC. Grey's music has been called "addictive" (Los Angeles Times), "revelatory" (All Music) and "full of energy" (Sequenza 21). LACC also presents the Cherokee hymn Sgwa ti'ni se sdi Yi Howa; Henry Mollicone's Spanish Ave Maria; Let Us Sing! arranged by Linda Tutas Haugen; and Meir Finkelstein's L'dor vador arranged by Rebecca Thompson and featuring soloist Madeleine Lew. In addition, the Stanford Chamber Chorale, under the direction of Stephen M. Sano, makes a guest appearance at the concert performing separately and also combining forces with LACC to sing Randall Thompson's Pueri Hebraeorum and the American folk song Shenandoah arranged by James Erb.
"Los Angeles Children's Chorus is honored to bring its artistry to the Bing Concert Hall and further expand our valued relationship with Stanford University," says LACC Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson. She notes that the chorus has long enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the institution. In 2008, LACC joined the Stanford Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Beijing native Jindong Cai, for a highly successful tour to China that included performances in Shanghai and Beijing.
