Brevard County, FL -- Local fifth graders were treated to a memory-making experience when the Brevard Symphony Orchestra presented its annual children's concerts today, February 3, 2015, at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne.

Students from across the county received the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the symphony performing music by Beethoven, Brahms, and Rossini.

To the delight of concert attendees, this year's concert, "Superheroes of the Symphony," also included music from action-packed films and television. Concerts continue through tomorrow, February 4, 2015, and will culminate with 7,000 public and private school students attending one of four performances over a two-day period.

"We look forward to this concert all year. Following this year's theme we can recognize many 'Superheroes' that make it possible -- our sponsors, the Brevard Public Schools and most importantly the music and classroom teachers who help make this an experience the 5th graders will never forget, " said BSO Executive Director Fran Delisle, "Every year Maestro Confessore and the BSO create an amazing experience!"

For over 30 years, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, partnering with the Brevard County School Board and through support received from local foundations and businesses, offers a free symphonic concert at the King Center each February for all 5th grade public and private school students. For many students this is their first visit to the King Center for the Performing Arts as well as their first symphonic performance.

A study guide is developed for all teachers which integrates all learning aspects of a symphony performance from biographies of the composers to seating within the orchestra, performance etiquette and much more. All this information is blended, with musical examples, into their regular curriculum. This allows students time, in advance of the concert, to learn about what they will soon be enjoying, therefore enhancing their learning experience.

The BSO is Brevard's premier professional orchestra. For over 60 years, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra has brought quality performances, educational programs and outreach opportunities to the community. Our mission is to entertain and enrich individuals and communities, by creating exceptional, live symphonic music. The BSO makes symphonic music accessible to diverse audiences by offering a variety of programs including an evening subscription series, matinee performances, free concerts, a children's concert club and special ticket offers. The BSO is orchestra-in-residence at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, Florida.
