Kimmel Center Adds New Organ Recitals to 2014-15

The Kimmel Center has announced three new dynamic cross-genre offerings to the 2014-15 season featuring The Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ. Dance, choral and cinematic soundscapes intertwine with "Fred's" majestic 6,938 pipes with new opportunities for audiences to experience the largest mechanical-action concert hall organ in the United States.

On February 22, organist Renée Anne Louprette performs with LA Dance Project's Moving Parts, an original score by Nico Muhly and choreography by Benjamin Millipied making its Philadelphia premiere. Her organ recital also features the world premiere of her own work,Transcription, as well as the works of Bach, Maximilian Reger, among others. Clarinetist Doris Hall- Gulati and violinist Reina Inui round out the program.

On May 29, Classic Silent Film with Organ takes center stage with an improvisational performanceby organist Steven Ball to the classic 1920's horror film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, followed by a new Organ Pump demonstration.

Then, on June 10, Praise! concludes the Kimmel's dynamic line-up of organ programming with an inspiring regional choral liturgical performance, led by organist Andrew Senn of First Presbyterian Church. Special guest cantor Amy Levy and soprano Jennifer Hsiung join the celebration.

It is our intent to enhance the Kimmel's organ offerings with multidisciplinary programming, which both organ enthusiasts and the entire Philadelphia community can enjoy," said Kimmel Center President and CEO Anne Ewers.

Organ enthusiasts are also encouraged to experience the monthly recurring FREE organ demonstrations that take place one Saturday each month, tied to the guided Building Tours in Verizon Hall.
