Joined by Captain America, The Incredibles' "Elasti-girl," Batman and Iron Man, Franz will introduce children to the orchestra's four instrument families - strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion - through Benjamin Britten's The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.
"Each of the superheroes included on this program have distinct super powers, just like each of the instrument families in the orchestra," said Franz. "Each of them will represent one of the four instrument families."
John Williams' Superman march and Danny Elfman's Batman theme from the action-packed films will also be included in the morning's musical lineup.
An instrument petting zoo, which allows children to hold and play orchestral instruments, as well as a craft activity will be offered in the lobby beginning one hour before the 10 a.m. concert and immediately following the 11:30 a.m. concert. Students from Theatre Under the Stars' (TUTS) Humphreys School of Musical Theatre will also appear on the hour-long program. Costumes are encouraged.
The concert will take place at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, 615 Louisiana Street, in Houston's Theater District. For tickets and information, call (713) 224-7575 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the Houston Symphony Patron Services Center in Jones Hall (Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). All programs and artists are subject to change.
