The Houston Symphony spotlights accessible classical works, including Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Poulenc's Suite from The Model Animals, and Ravel's Boléro at 8 p.m. today, April 8-9 and 2:30 p.m. April 10 at Jones Hall, led by guest conductor Fabien Gabel.

Made famous by Disney's original film "Fantasia," the magic and mischief of The Sorcerer's Apprentice will commence the program. Then, guest violinist Caroline Goulding joins the orchestra for an exquisite interpretation of one of the most significant pieces in the violin repertoire, Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1. Declared "precociously gifted" by Gramophone magazine, Goulding has performed with orchestras worldwide and received a Grammy nomination for her 2009 debut album.

The second half of the concert will delight audiences with the orchestral colors of Poulenc's Model Animals Suite, taken from his ballet based on the tales of La Fontaine, and Ravel's Boléro, one of the composer's most famous works. Boléro is recognized by many as being a featured theme in several television shows, films and video games.

Unless otherwise noted, the concerts will take place at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, 615 Louisiana Street, in Houston's Theater District. For tickets and information, call (713) 224-7575 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the Houston Symphony Patron Services Center in Jones Hall (Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). All programs and artists are subject to change.
